Player Biography
Legendary baseball promoter Henry Chadwick once wrote, “There is no doubt that Harry Wright is the father of professional base ball playing.” William Henry “Harry” Wright organized, managed and played centerfield for baseball’s first all-professional team, the famed 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. Wright first played baseball with the New York Knickerbockers and later guided the Boston Red Stockings to four straight National Association pennants (1872-1875) and National League titles in 1877 and 1878. According to Chadwick, Wright was “the most experienced, skillful and successful manager of a base ball team in the professional fraternity.”
