Player Biography
Ed Barrow was an excellent judge of baseball talent and responsible for the creation of the game’s greatest dynasty, the New York Yankees. The team’s chief executive used wise trades, outright player purchases and a budding farm system to put together teams that won 14 pennants and 10 World Series championships – including five Series sweeps – between 1921 and 1945. An accomplished manager, Barrow led the 1918 Boston Red Sox to a World Series title before ending his field career in 1920 to join New York’s front office. In 1919, he made the historic decision to convert Babe Ruth from pitcher to outfielder.
