Player Biography
Light-hitting but slick-fielding Leo Durocher spent 17 years playing shortstop in the majors, but he is most remembered for his 24 years at the helm of the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros. Brilliant yet controversial, Durocher focused his clubs completely on winning. “As long as I’ve got a chance to beat you, I’m going to take it,” Durocher once said. And he did win – 2,009 games, three pennants and the 1954 World Series for the Giants, their first championship since 1933. “The Lip” was named Manager of the Year by the Sporting News in 1939, 1951 and 1954.
