Henry Emmett “Heinie” Manush was one of seven sons, six of whom played professional baseball. A left-handed, line-drive-hitting outfielder, Manush consistently ranked among the game’s top batters. In 1926, he hit .378 to lead the American League, batting .330 lifetime during a 17-year career. In a 1977 interview, Joe Cronin said of Manush: “If he’d catch ’em playing back, he’d dump a bunt. If they moved in on him, Heinie slapped the ball by ’em.”
