Don Drysdale teamed with Sandy Koufax during the 1960s to form one of the most dominating pitching duos in history. Utilizing numerous pitches to work both sides of the plate, Drysdale developed a reputation as an intimidator, hitting 154 batters to set a modern National League record. “The trick against Drysdale” said Hall of Fame slugger Orlando Cepeda, “is to hit him before he hits you.” A workhorse, Drysdale led the N.L. in games started from 1962 to 1965, and set a record with 58 consecutive scoreless innings in 1968. A two-time 20-game winner, Drysdale won the Cy Young Award in 1962.
