Player Biography
As sportswriter Jim Murray declared: “When Brooks Robinson retires, he’s going to take third base with him.” Nicknamed “The Human Vacuum Cleaner” for his fielding prowess, Robinson’s career – spent entirely with the Baltimore Orioles – resulted in 18 All-Star selections, 16 Gold Glove awards and 268 career home runs – a then-record for American League third basemen. He starred in the 1970 World Series, hitting .429, making a host of defensive gems and winning the Most Valuable Player Award. “I once thought of giving him some tips but dropped the idea,” said fellow Hall of Fame third baseman Pie Traynor. “He’s just the best there is.”
