His ability to get on base and manufacture runs was unparalleled. Hamilton’s 1,691 runs scored in 1,578 games played ranks as the highest ratio of all time, and his record of 196 runs scored for the 1894 Phillies has stood for more than 100 years. A fearless baserunner, Hamilton stole 937 career bases, including 115 in 1891. He was also a master at the plate, batting better than .300 for 12 consecutive years, compiling a .344 career average.
