The slugging outfielder topped the .300 mark in 17 consecutive seasons and won seven National League batting titles with his famed “corkscrew” stance and ringing line drives. A three-time Most Valuable Player, “The Man” played in 24 All-Star games and was a member of three World Series championship teams. In 1948, he fell one home run shy of capturing the Triple Crown.
