One of five brothers to reach the major leagues, Ed Delahanty was a feared hitter. The first man to win a batting title in both the American and National leagues, Delahanty’s lifetime average of .346 remains one of the highest of all time. After his tragic death, when he fell from a bridge over Niagara Falls in 1903, The New York Times wrote, “He created plenty of excitement for opponents and spectators when he laid his tremendous bat against a pitch.”
