If you were a baseball fan in the 60’s and 70’s—or a lover of baseball history—then Waiting for a Sign will be a page-turner you can’t put down. Kevin Keating spent his youth collecting autographs from some of the biggest stars baseball has ever produced. And along the way, he befriended many of the most familiar names in the history of sports. Because of his own affable personality and passion for the game that made his heroes legends, Keating collected not just autographs, but behind the scenes stories that are must-reads for any baseball fan. In this first volume, you’ll read stories about Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Rod Carew, Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Roger Maris, Johnny Mize, Joe McCarthy and many others.

A true passion for baseball and those who played it
Sep 21st 2024I can't begin to describe how much I enjoyed this book. The personal accounts of the trials and tribulations of obtaining the autographs from the players was incredibly entertaining. When I was in high school, before a game at Wrigley Field, I went to the hotel where the visiting team was staying and had a ball signed by many members of the World Champion Big Red Machine of 1975, which I still proudly display. But that was just a fun one-off day as a kid - I am blown away that Kevin turned his passion into a lifelong career. This passion, and love for the game, comes out in this book as if you are with him at every success (and rejection). His knack for storytelling is profound and is reflected in the description of each encounter he has with the players - it feels like you are right there with him, experiencing the anxiety, angst, and joy. If you are a baseball fan, and especially if you ever attempted to get an autograph from your favorite player, you will love this book.

A must read for anyone interested in developing human relationships.
Sep 14th 2024A Grand Slam! Learn about a young boy who chased autographs and his dream to be the premier collector in the industry. Not only does the author collect autographs of many legendary baseball players, but he befriends and creates lifelong friendships with many of them. Amazing! I couldn't help but reminisce to my youth and chasing some of my favorite players to have a brief moment of their time in my hands. The stories are well written and provide many tips to collecting autographs and more importantly getting inside the person behind the signature.. I couldn't wait to jump to the next chapter to learn more about my childhood heroes. A wonderful read for anyone and a great gift for even the casual fan in your life. Highly recommended to anyone interested in true human relationships. Well done Kevin Keating!
