Player Biography
“Walter Maranville is the greatest player to enter baseball since Ty Cobb arrived,” raved Boston Braves manager George Stallings. Maranville compensated for his lack of size with an overabundance of energy and determination. During his 23-year major league career, spent exclusively in the National League, the wide-ranging infielder accumulated a record 5,133 putouts and developed a reputation for eye-popping “basket catches.” Maranville finished in the top 10 for the N.L. Most Valuable Player Award five times including a runner-up finish in 1914, as a key member of the “Miracle Braves.”
