The “Earl of Baltimore” emphasized pitching, defense and the three-run home run. Weaver explained: “A manager’s job is to select the best players for what he wants done. They’re not all great players, but they can all do something.” His organizational system, revered as “The Oriole Way,” focused on fundamental skills and planned player development, a format which led to four American League pennants and one World Series championship (1970) during his tenure.
