Player Biography
Carlos Beltrán played for 20 seasons for the Royals, Astros, Mets. Giants, Cardinals, Yankees and Rangers, retiring as one of just four players in history with at least 400 home runs, 300 steals and three Gold Glove Awards…Among players who appeared in at least 50 percent of their games in center field, Beltrán retired fourth on that list among home run hitters, trailing only Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr. and Mickey Mantle…Beltrán was successful on 86.4 percent of his career stolen base attempts (312 for 361), the top success rate of any player in history with at least 300 steals…The 1999 American League Rookie of the Year, Beltrán was a nine-time All-Star who reached the 100-RBI mark eight times, scored at least 100 runs in seven seasons and clubbed 20-plus home runs 12 times…A switch-hitter, Beltrán posted almost the exact same OPS from both sides of the plate (.843 as a right-handed batter, .835 as a lefty batter) and is fourth all-time among switch-hitters in home runs (435), third in RBI (1,587) and sixth in hits (2,725)…He is the only switch-hitter in history with at least 1,500 runs scored, 1,500 RBI, 300 homers and 300 steals, a club that features only four total members (Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Álex Rodríguez and Beltrán)…A two-time Silver Slugger Award winner and the recipient of the 2013 Roberto Clemente Award, Beltrán is the sixth player raised in Puerto Rico to be elected to the Hall of Fame.
