Player Biography
Among the most consistent leadoff batters in history, Richie Ashburn was a solid centerfielder and consistent hitter who sprayed hits to all fields for the Philadelphia Phillies. He hit better than .300 during nine of 15 seasons, twice capturing National League batting titles, while finishing second twice. A .308 lifetime batter, Ashburn also led the N.L. in walks four times. A six-time All-Star selection, “Whitey” transitioned to the broadcast booth following his career to become a popular Phillies broadcaster for more than three decades.
