He hit better than .300 during nine of 15 seasons, twice capturing National League batting titles, while finishing second twice. A .308 lifetime batter, Ashburn also led the N.L. in walks four times. A six-time All-Star selection, “Whitey” transitioned to the broadcast booth following his career to become a popular Phillies broadcaster for more than three decades.
