Player Biography
Although Bob Lemon debuted in the minor leagues as a position player, managers recognized his strong throwing arm and transformed the outfielder into a major league pitcher. During one nine-year span, Lemon logged seven 20-win seasons and helped propel the Cleveland Indians 1948 and 1954 pennant drives. Lemon later became a successful manager, leading the New York Yankees to a World Series victory in 1978. New York Times sportswriter Steve Cady once wrote: “The line on Lemon is that the next person to say something bad about him will be the first.”
