Player Biography
Timothy John Keefe pitched the majority of his career in an era when the distance between the pitcher and the batter was less than the now-familiar 60-feet, six inches, resulting in career statistics that seem otherwordly to today’s fans. Nevertheless, the humble, soft-spoken right-hander, who carried the nickname “Sir Timothy,” combined “all the needed qualifications to excel in his chosen position, having wonderful speed, a troublesome curve and great command of the ball.” It has been written that Keefe was the unnamed inspirational hurler who struck out the “Mighty Casey” in the famous poem, “Casey at the Bat.”
