Player Biography
Bid McPhee was an adept leadoff man and superior second baseman, despite playing barehanded for the majority of his 18-year big league career. McPhee was the last major league second baseman to play gloveless in the field. Nevertheless, he regularly led the league in double plays, fielding average, assists and putouts. Playing his entire career in Cincinnati, McPhee batted better than .300 on five occasions and topped the 100-run mark 10 times en route to a .281 career batting average. He led the American Association in home runs in 1886 and triples in 1887.
