Player Biography
In just 12 major league seasons in the 19th century, John Clarkson recorded 327 career victories, including 53 wins in 1885, leading the Chicago White Stockings to the National League pennant. Twice hurling more than 600 innings in a season, Clarkson was the winningest pitcher in N.L. history at the time of his retirement in 1894. His wide variety of curveballs and outstanding ability to pitch to the batter’s weakness propelled him to a lofty 327-177 career record. He captured the league’s Triple Crown in 1889.
