Player Biography
Clarence Arthur “Dazzy” Vance toiled in the minor leagues for a decade and didn’t win a game in the majors until he was 31 years old. The most dominant pitcher of the 1920s, Vance used his blazing fastball to lead the National League in strikeouts for seven consecutive seasons. Teammate Johnny Frederick said that Vance “could throw a cream puff through a battleship.” His 1924 season, for which he won the Most Valuable Player Award, featured the pitching Triple Crown: he led the league with a 28-6 record, 2.16 ERA and 262 strikeouts.
