Player Biography
Andy Cooper utilized a wide array of pitches, sharp control and deceptive changes of speed to establish his reputation with the Detroit Stars from 1920 to 1927. The Kansas City Monarchs then traded five players to acquire the southpaw. Cooper – who won twice as many games as he lost with both the Stars and the Monarchs – helped lead Kansas City to the Negro National League pennant in 1929. He once pitched 17 innings in a 1937 playoff game against the Chicago American Giants and later managed the Monarchs to three league titles between 1937 and 1940.
