Player Biography
Bursting on the big-league scene in 1902 with a one-hitter against the St. Louis Browns, Addie Joss’ life was tragically cut short nine years later by a losing bout with tubercular meningitis. During his career – spent entirely with the Cleveland clubs – Joss managed to hurl a pair of no-hitters, including a perfect game in 1908, among his 160 victories. At an all-star game played in his honor, manager Jimmy McAleer eulogized, “The memory of Addie Joss is sacred to every one with whom he ever came in contact.”
