Player Biography
During the first half of his 24-year major league career, Dennis Eckersley won over 150 games as a starting pitcher, including a 1977 no-hitter. In his final dozen seasons, Eckersley saved nearly 400 games, earning both Cy Young and Most Valuable Player honors in 1992. “I just like to think of myself as a pitcher,” he said upon his election to the Hall of Fame. “People think of me more as a closer, because that’s where I had the most success, but I like to think it was the uniqueness of my career that got me in.”
